Inhabiting Light – Dialogue on the Edge of the Everyday World brings together Japanese philosopher Masatake Shinohara and photographer Rinko Kawauchi in an ongoing dialogue between words and images. Shinohara's philosophical texts are answered by Kawauchi's photographs, which in turn prompt further writing, creating a quiet exchange exploring light, nature, place and our experience of the everyday world.
Published by Tokyo-based torch press in 2025, the book reflects Kawauchi's distinctive ability to find significance in fleeting, seemingly ordinary moments, while Shinohara considers the relationship between human existence and the natural environments we inhabit.
