Portals - Irmeli Kukkapuro

Portals is the first book dedicated to the work of Finnish artist Irmeli Kukkapuro (1934–2022), offering an intimate look into a body of work that has remained largely unknown outside her immediate surroundings. Kukkapuro worked across drawing, lithography, woodcut, abstraction, painting, collage and object compositions, exploring recurring themes of gender, form, space and colour.

Alongside her artworks, the book documents more than 320 objects from Kukkapuro’s workspace at Studio Kukkapuro — tools, materials, collected objects and sources of inspiration and memory. Edited by Päivi Helander and Ida Kukkapuro, it also includes an extensive essay by art historian Asta Kihlman examining the development of Kukkapuro’s artistic practice.
